WHAT IS CHILDHOOD

In this poem,the poet wanders when he last his childhood. He wanders whether his childhood went when he crossed the age of eleven. Or did he lase his childhood when he gained wisdom and came to know that hell and Heaven are not real things. These cannot be found in Geography books. Then the past wanders whether he last his childhood innocence when he found the truth about the adult. He found that the adult were not as they appeared to be. They talked of love and preached of love. But did not act lovingly. The poet wanders whether he last his childhood when he realized that his mind was independent. He could produce his own thoughts and had no need to follow the thoughts of others. In the end, the poet wonders where his childhood went. He thinks that it has gone and hidden itself in same infant is face. It means that when he sees on infant is face. He remembers his own childhood.

The day passes quickly. दिन जल्दी जल्दी ढलता है दिन जल्दी-जल्दी ढलता है। हो जाय न पथ में रात कहीं, मंज़िल भी तो है दूर नहीं यह सोच थका दिन का पंछी भी जल्दी-जल्दी चलता है। दिन जल्दी-जल्दी ढलता है। बच्चे प्रत्याशा में होंगे, नीड़ों से झाँक रहे होंगे यह ध्यान परों में चिड़ियों के भरता कितनी चंचलता है। दिन जल्दी-जल्दी ढलता है! मुझसे मिलने को कौन विकल? मैं होऊँ किसके हित चंचल ? यह प्रश्न शिथिल करता पद को, भरता उर में विह्वलता है। दिन जल्दी-जल्दी ढलता है।
