 What am I, who am I?

I have not understood till now, be it insult or respect, be it my pride, I could not stand by myself, even though I did not want to, I bowed down before others, leaving my desires incomplete, I aborted my dreams, be it enemy or friend, I could not give justice to both, what to say about justice, I could not understand this puzzle, when it comes to my rights, I could not even raise my voice, I wanted to do what I wanted, I could not even do that, alas!

What a plight I have, I could not be with others, I could not even be mine, I tied myself in chains, I pushed myself into darkness, how can I know others, I have not been able to know myself till now.

मैं क्या हूं, कौन हूं?

अब तक बात समझ ना आई रे, अपमान की या सम्मान की, बात हो मेरे अभिमान की, साथ खुद का ना दे पाई मैं, ना चाहते हुए भी, औरों के आगे घुटने टेक आई मैं, अपनी इच्छाओं को अधूरा छोड़, सपनों का गर्भपात कर आई मैं, शत्रु हो या मित्र हो, दोनों को न्याय न दे पाई मैं, न्याय की क्या बात, यह पहेली समझ ना पाई मैं, बात मेरे अधिकारों की, वो आवाज भी उठाना पाई मैं, करना चाहूं अपने मन, वह भी कर ना पाई मैं, हाय !

कैसी मेरी विपदा है, औरों की में हो ना सकी, खुद को भी अपना ना पाई मैं, जंजीरों से खुद को जकड़ लिया, अंधकार में खुद को धकेल आई मैं, औरों को कैसे जान लूं, खुद को अभी तक जान ना पाई मैं॥
